Marshals
Flag Marshals
They relay messages to the driver which are vitally important.

These messages can tell the driver that there is an ambulance or service vehicle on the track; that someone has dropped oil which is a hazard; that there has been an accident or a spin and great care is needed; or that another driver is about to pass.

A Flag Marshal will also relay messages from the race director (called Clerk of the Course), to the drivers, which includes a flag that will stop the race.

Flag Marshals man specially protected flag points which are very close to the action. They always work as a team, with experienced people assisting those who are newcomers. They need to be alert during races, but can relax in between.

For close to the action excitement, there is very little to match being a motor race Flag Marshal.
Rally Marshals
Rally Marshals have the tasks of controlling the starts, finish of all Special Stages (closed road) sections of a rally. They keep a record of the time and order that cars enter and leave the special stage.

Additionally, Marshals (Block Marshals) control all roads leading into and out of the Special Stages to prevent other motorists from straying onto the closed road section.
Rescue Marshals
They have a specialized job to do.

They have to recover cars from off-track spins and rolls and assist in rescuing the driver when necessary. Rescue Marshals, like Flag Marshals, work as a team and train as a team.

They are shown how best to fight a fire, use cutting implements, rescue equipment and the proper use of two-way radios. A Rescue Marshal will assist ambulance officers when called on to do so.

It is also exciting and ever so often calls for quick responses and discipline and an ability to report on incidents clearly and accurately to the Clerk of the Course. Being a Rescue Marshal is not all hard work and provides the very best viewing on the track when they are not busy.
Pit / Grid Marshals
Pit Marshals have the task of controlling the movement and location of vehicles within the pit area. Grid Marshals are required to ensure competing vehicles are in the correct position on the starting grid.
Spectator Marshals
Spectator Marshals are required at events to ensure that spectators do not expose themselves to unnecessary danger and do nothing to endanger the competitors or the event.
Scrutineers
Are you interested in things technical, playing with mechanical devices? Perhaps you work as a mechanic or have a technical qualification? People are needed to check and maintain technical regulations for the various classes of motorsport. As are Scrutineers, whose job it is to check competing vehicles prior to the event to ensure mechanical integrity and safety.
